Why do babies like remotes and cell phones?

my son is having a love affair with the tv remote and my cell phone. I don't think he could decide which he liked better, but he likes pushing them around the room and scooting after them. what's your baby's favorite inanimate object? and do you think they like these things because they see us using them or do you think they like them because they're small, dark, hard, and plastic with fun squishy ons to push?
