If inbred humans are less than desirable? (accidently deleted the last Q when trying to add onto it)?
Not all of the South African Boerboel breeders are inbreeding their dogs. I just helped a breeder get some dogs from the Netherlands that are complete out-crosses and don't have the health issues that most of the dogs in the states have. The reason that people use inbreeding is to strengthen the occurrence of desirable traits. It should never be done closer then two generations apart i.e. Grandparent to Grand-kid breeding's. Trying to breed out traits should only be done by out-crossing since all you are doing by line-breeding is strengthening the traits that are already there. Ultimately most of the in-breeding breeders are doing this because they are to lazy to look for the other dogs out there. Also make sure your breeder is willing to give a full health guarantee on hips and elbows at the least since these are huge issues for this breed in the States.
