When I try to burn anything from Vista Windows Media Player, I get a message, "conect to a burner then restart

I have two cd-dvd-rw's and two burner programs and have followed all the tips in Windows with no results. The WMP ripped my music and I created a playlist that will play from WMP, do I have to convert the files or should it burn?
